The outsourcing of activities from one company to another. You see this is a lot in the logistics and distribution field. Companies often don’t have the infrastructure to handle certain things on their own, so they outsource them to a 3rd party provider.

Help!! Logistic company is forcing me to pay for charges incurred by my customer =(?Hello, i am a small website seller, recently there was a buyer who bought some merchandise from me and chosen her own logistic company to ship the goods and ask the charges to be billed to her account. I verified the account was active before shipping out the goods, after that the customer received the goods and paid for the “Duties & Taxed”, but not the shipping charges. However the shipping fees was reverted back to me and now the logistic company is forcing me to pay for the charges incurred by the buyer. In the contract when i shipped the merchandise i initiated that the recipient will pay for all shipping and taxes and duties, now months after the goods were delivered the logistic company can’t get the payment from the account holder and is now forcing me to pay. The fine prints from the back of the contract was later highlighted to me and no matter what i will have to pay for the charges, if legal actions are taken i will also have to bear for all fees… I feel very cornered and as a small business which every penny counts, i cant afford the $1800++ shipping which was incurred. Is there such thing as if the recipient refuses to pay, the seller will have to bear all shipping cost? Can someone out there please be kind enough to give some tips….

Lesson learned. If you want something done, do it yourself. In this case, you relied on the buyer to pay for shipping through a 3rd party. I’m surprised that the shipper delivered the goods without getting paid. But I guess they didn’t care, they’ll get paid by you. In the future, you add shipping charges to the bill and collect before shipping the goods.

If possible, you sue the receiver the shipping charges.. How did the seller pay for the goods. With your documentation, you could send in a supplemental charge to their bank for the shipping charges. But you may have to prove that they agreed to pay for the shipping charges. Your check mark on the documents won’t be enough.

The shipper does not care about the payment arrangement between you and the buyer because they weren’t part of the arrangement. Unfortunately, you’re stuck with the shipping charges.

Is this an eBay scam or is it a perfect deal?I am looking to buy my first car so I went on a website to look for one. I saw a perfect deal, one that I could not pass up. I emailed the girl selling it and she told me she was selling it for almost 2000$. I’m a student and to me this is a lot of money. Anyways, she also told me that she was being deployed in Afghanistan in 2 weeks and needed someone to buy the car ASAP. She then told me to “conclude this deal in a timely manner, the financial part will be managed on eBay.” I then told her that I would like to see it and I would rather pay in cash. She then refused saying that she cannot do that since she is currently deployed in Petawawa making preparations to be deployed in Afghanistan. She said “the car is already at our Military Logistics Department from Petawawa, ON ready to be delivered. The logistic department will deliver the car to your home.” She then said that I can’t go see it and the shipping can take 2-3 business days. Here comes the part that is most questionable to me. She said that she would like to use eBay as a third party. She said that they will keep my money into a protection account until I get the vehicle and will release the money to her after the inspection period is over. She said the inspection period is 10 days and if I decide not to keep it, the money will be refunded to me and shipping the vehicle back will be her concern.

To me, it sounds like a “too good to be true” kind of thing. Does eBay really hold your money for you? Are the new troops really being deployed in 2 weeks? Is there a military base in Petawawa, ON? And finally, would the Logistic Department really spend her/their own money to send me this car?

Any kind of help is greatly appreciated 🙂

There is no car for sale. There are stolen pictures of someone else’s car.

There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.

NO, eBay does NOT really hold your money for you. NO, a Logistic Department would NOT spend any money to send you the car (a car that doesn’t really exist anyway).

The next email will be from another of the scammer’s fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the “eBat” and will demand you pay for shipping fees, in cash, and only by Western Union or moneygram. Or the scammer will want you to “prove” you have the funds by sending cash to a friend and sending him the MTCN#. The scammer then uses the MTCN# to pick up your cash and disappear.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever

Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his ‘potential sucker’ list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

You could post up the email address and the emails themselves that the scammer is using, it will help make your post more googlable for other suspicious potential victims to find when looking for information.

Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don’t bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn’t worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even partial sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

If you google “Craigslist car seller scam”, “fake truck sale scam Western Union”, “fake car shipping company scam” or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.
